As a free man Titus could have retired to his farm, but instead he chose to continue to fight in the arena, but on his own terms. He only fought against barbarian women who had been to brought to Rome to be sold as slaves. Titus would carefully select his opponent at the slave market and then have her purchased on his behalf by an agent who would house and feed her until she was delivered to the arena for her fight against her owner. If his slave won, Titus would be grant her her freedom, but if she lost she would become his slave on his farm. |
